Week 4.2

Updating our LiveBinder!

Many of you have been asking me for advice on various technology tools or websites that can apply to your specific needs.  Keep it coming!  I love it and I'm happy to provide you with any ideas I may have or try to help you find the answers.

Here are some new additions to the LiveBinder (http://www.livebinders.com/edit?id=294712)...

To my Family and Consumer Science Teachers, I didn't forget about you!  I have added
Under the Twitter Tab, you will find Twitter4Teachers.  This is a wiki that provides an open community for teachers to connect and find others with similar professional interests...yes, even Family and Consumer Science.  Yay!
And
Check this out...I LOVE it! Integrating your curriculum with fun technology ideas!

Under the Visual/Presentatin Tab...
http://www.wallwisher.com/ - an online wall to post notes, organize thoughts, collaborate as a group with music videos, pictures or information.  No registration or emails needed for students and teachers have the opportunity to review and permit notes before they are posted.

Under the Wiki Tab...
http://www.wikispaces.com/content/for/teachers - a free place for educators to post, publish, and share text, files, videos and more with their students.  You can create unlimited pages with privacy settings.  You do not need email addresses to create student accounts
Under the StoryTelling Tab...
http://www.kerpoof.com/teach - a mulitmedia software, created by Disney, allowing students a safe place to create orginal artwork, animated movies, stories.  Elementary through Middle School teachers use this website along with national and statel aligned lesson plans to integrate technology into their classrooms lessons.  Teachers can create an account for their classrooms and students do not need an email address.

If you have any questions regarding or suggestions of tools, please post them here!

  1. Just my two cents -- If you feel overwhelmed by all of the technology we've discussed, make your own LiveBinder with the technology that YOU think will be most applicable and manageable in your classroom. As Nicole already mentioned, LiveBinders is both user friendly and extremely practical. At this point, I'm thinking about making a LiveBinder for my students' parents to access. I can't guarantee that all parents will utilize it, but I imagine that it will be a helpful resource for parents who want to know about upcoming events, weekly sharing, classroom requests, children's work samples, etc.

I think I may have mentioned this software on a previous blog post, but here it is again:

    http://sketchcast.com/

Sketchcasting is a new way to communicate by recording visuals, optionally with your voice. Sample ideas on the website include: explaining a math formula, creating a cartoon, visualizing a concept, etc. I would imagine that students of any age (and adults!) would find this highly engaging. This technology would allow students to determine the clarity of their conceptual understandings by providing a visual accompaniment. Some food for thought!

  2. As said in previous posts, I love how this class gives a variety of new technology! It really gets me thinking of newer ways that I can teach new concepts. With the standards changing to the "Common Core" it is getting me to think of how I can match the standards with incorporating technology. It is really helpful when I hear teachers from similar grades discuss how they use it in their classrooms. This helps me connect to the content I teach and how I might be able to use it. Keep the sharing coming!

    1. Melissa S. I totally agree. There is so much out there. How could we find it all unless we take a wonderful course such as this one with Prof. Feeney. This is a great resource for us. I hope to make use of the LiveBinders in the near future.

    3. Being that there is some much information out there and technology constantly changing I feel that teacher should be taking coursed every som often in order to keep with the lastets technology, and then they can incorporate it into the classrooms.

  3. I've started to create a live binder for a summer camp I run every summer. There is a chance I may not be working there this summer, so I want to leave my instructors with material based on our theme: Going Green. So far, I have come across many great resources and cannot wait to continue adding to it! This is a great way to keep resources organized and easy to use! Definitely beats lugging around the 2 inch binder I'd fill with tons of activities everyday back and forth!

  4. Once again, I had blogged about the FACS website but don't see it. Anyway, I loved the FACS site, thank you so much for finding a relevant site that incoporates technology and "fun" ways to teach. I can't wait to explore the site a bit more and have already forwarded the link to many of my friends/assoc.

  6. LiveBinder is great on-line tools to use to organize website resources. I have created a live binder for my students on sites they will be using in class or they can use as references. I like the live binder better because you can clearly set tabs for the students to be able to view and click on.
Thanks for posting the FCS Wiki - I have been following this site for a while now and it is a great informative site. The author has great tips on how to incorporate technology into the classroom and other resources for FCS. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Wow, love the idea of livbinder, it is almost as if notebooks and planner are going oout the window. However I do wonder hoe parents will react to all this new technology. For me I am a paper and pen type of person, i like to be able to sit and wrtie things out becasue it help me remember things better..
