Week 2.5

We have BLOGS!!!

Your classmates have been working hard at creating their own blogs.  Please see these links to support their cause!

Lorena's blog can be found at http://kidblog.org/home.php.  She would love for all of you to come and leave comments.  You have your own usernames:  first initial - last name and the password is soccer.

Check out Diana's blog at http://www.dpmnewblog.blogspot.com/. She is trying to educate the people in her life as well as other individuals she might able to reach!

Here's Mike at www.6Acebook.blogspot.com.  He has begun a blog for his students and welcomes comments to what his students are posting.

Mike H. has started a blog at his Sunday school.  A great place to start this conversation with kids.  Please visit http://stgeorgesundayschool.blogspot.com/.

Thanks for your support!  Anyone else start a blog?

  1. While I have yet to start a blog (not sure if it's the most user friendly piece of technology for 5 year-olds...) I did take a look at Michael Carbone's, and I am so impressed with the authenticity of the discussion topics. I especially like how students' soil recommendations serve a genuine purpose as they will be reviewed by a real audience - the principal. What a great way to inspire conversation, collaboration, and critical thinking! I especially liked the fact that each student has to provide evidence supporting their recommendation -- such a crucial piece of the evaluation process! Way to go, Michael!

    1. Just wanted to mention - I'll be taking a look at the rest of the blogs when I get a few spare minutes. I don't want to discount anyone else's work!! I think it is SO impressive that each of you are integrating 21st century learning into your professional lives.

    2. I spent a few minutes looking at the blogs but need to find time to actually explore them a bit more. I could not get onto Diana's; I was not allowed access.
Congrats for taking the plunge to start them.

  2. Great Blogs - I have become a great fan of using blogs in the classroom. I am introducing blogs to my new batch of students next week and I am so excited about it. I have been working with the reading specialist in our school to gear the questions towards practicing for the CAPTS. I also find that blogging helps students with thier reading and further comprehension of a topic. I used blogging also as an assessment tool. I would love to share it with you but we have to keep our blogs private. I highly recommend using a blog for your classroom. Thanks for sharing your blogs.

    1. Kate,
I still need to contact you about your blog; is there ever enough time? I am looking forward to trying this with you. Maybe in the next 2 weeks we can meet after class and discuss this; let me know. I agree that when you hold student's accountable for their readings comprehension is greatly improved. My Child Dev. students used to tell me that they actually only read the stuff for my class as my assignments forced them to actually complete the readings. Instead of making them "answer questions" at the end of the chapter, I used to make them come up with questions, comments or connections to the reading as to how if affected them and what they were still unsure about so it forced them to find info. that wasn't actually there. Thanks for your ideas about adding CAPT. Do your students test for Perkins there as you might want to add some Perkins like questions as well. They differ greatly from CAPT.

  3. I just checked out the blogs (Diana when I accessed your link it showed an error). Mike H. it's great to read such thoughtful responses from your students. It's good to know that there are youth out there who appreciate that life is more than the materials you have around you. Mike - many of your students are writing longer posts and are backing their reasons up with details. It's great to see that. I like the escalator video-very thought provoking. Very cool everyone!

  5. I wanted to share one of my friend's blog/site with all of you. It was developed to provide parents withinformation on their child's development, but I think this would be beneficial to educators as well. She has a lot of great resources.

    http://playlearnparent.com/

This is her other site which was created to provide digital media creators and developers with information about child development.

    http://playlearncreate.wordpress.com/

I find both of these sites really interesting. I also follow on facebook and get updates when new blogs or resources are posted.
