  7. When students are failing we tend to blame the students and not the schools, or teachers. Because people of authority are looked at as the experts we tend to not want to blame them for what is actually taking place in the school and blame them for the lack of education that students are getting. It is just easier to blame the students since they do not have a voice. I find this disturbing. How is it that students in primary grades do well, they have good grades and then once they hit middle school there grades begin to plummet? Is it that the students are getting dumber or is it that the teachers are failing in their instructions and are not effective teachers?

Americans do think that education is a fundamental right, as it should be. However it does lack equality. We have laws that state that children need to go to school or they will be truant. There are laws that punish these kids. And there are laws for parents as well, parents have to send their kids to school or they will have consequences. It is so hard to for under privilege students and their parents to be heard. Parents feel that the education their children are getting isn’t worth the time, energy or effort, let alone that the education they are getting is going to get their kids anywhere. So they may not enforce their kids from going to school. How about kids themselves that feel that it is a waste of time for them to be in school.
